1. How does this chapter fit with Chapter 12 (remember, it was about being a living sacrifice) and chapter 13 (proper respect for authority and Love fulfills God’s requirements)?

2.  Paul warns that we are to accept a person who has weaker faith.  What is he telling to do?  Give an example of who that person might be and how we should behave.

3.  What are the two different disagreements Paul cites as examples of things that cause disunity?  Who is right?

4.  In this chapter why did Paul quote Isa 49:10, what point does he want us to understand?

5.  In addition to the above instruction, what is the recommendation for how we should seek to live with regard to other believers.

6. How are we to  determine kashrut (if something Kosher, is clean in God’s sight, or if it is defiled)?

Reflection questions Romans 8:18- 39 March 12

1.How does Paul help us put our suffering into perspective?

v. 18 our suffering is not worthy to be compared with the glory that is being revealed in us.

2.  What is the Glory that is being revealed in us and when will it be revealed?

3.  Why is all of creation in pain?  What will stop that pain?

4.  Paul used the word “hope” in verses 20 and 24.  Given these two verses how    would you say Paul defines hope?

5.  What are some of your hopes for this lifetime?

6. How does the Holy Spirit help when we don’t know quiet how to pray?

7.  What is the qualifying statement in v. 28 for “all things work together for good”.  Or when don’t all things work together for good?

8.  What does predestined mean?

9.   Who are called and where are they called to, and who called them?

10.  He asked a question in  v. 35, what is the question and what is the answer?

Chapter 7

1.   How long does Paul say a law is binding on a person? (v.1)

2.  What example does he use to illustrate this? (v.2)

3.  What does Paul say is the believer’s relationship to the law?

4.What/how are we to serve?

5.  So what use does the law serve?

6.  What did Paul say caused death to him?  How can a dead man write a letter to the Romans?.

7.  What is the difference between what he wrote he did and what he wanted to do

8.  What reason did he give for the situation described in verses 15-19?

9. How about you?  What in your life do you do that you wish you didn’t, or what do you wish you’d do that you don’t?  Think on it, maybe this is too personal to write or share aloud.  After you think on in it, pray on it!

10.  How does this chapter fit with the one before it, what is the point of these verses?

How can this portion apply to our lives?

This is a good place to come to be reminded of what the gospel is in v. 3&4 and to be challenged as to what kind of person we should be

1. called of Jesus Christ

2. received Grace and apostleship

*. Jesus is God and Man, Paul mentions his Yichas

*. God chose Paul, not the other way round.  Did God choose you?

Compare this to a modern business letter.  What elements are present?  Are there any missing?

Romans 1:16-32

I hope you have received the e-mail from Melissa with a schedule for snacks and nursery.

Before I post reflection questions for our time together on Monday 10/10 I have spent some time looking for answers to the questions that were raised so here is what I came up with:

1.  Was Samson set apart?

There is no reference to “set apart” where Samson is concerned (Judges 13-16).  Samson’s parents were told not to cut his hair, and his mother was told not to eat and drink certain things.  This is thought to be a Nazarite vow (not to be confused with the city of Nazareth, where Nazarenes come from).

2.  Is there a place where the Bible put the words Sanctification and set a part together?

The only place i could find was I Chronicles 23:13.  Badal (set a part) and Kadesh (from the root for holy, it is traslated here sanctify),

I must apologize, in addition to the word Badal being used for men to set others a part that Badal is also used of the Lord setting someone a part.   An example would be Deut. 10:8  The word is used 58 times and is translated  separate 25 times, divide 8 times, difference 4 times asunder twice, sever once, separation once. utterly, once,and severed twice

Earlier this week, Monday, 1/23/11  we looked at Romans chapter 2.  Paul is making a case why we need the Salvation that Y’shua (Jesus) brings.  He wrote that Gentiles, Moralists and Jews are all sinful and need to be forgiven.  In this chapter he made a case for general revelation……If there is a creation then there must be a creator.  This is an important point because it says that those who never heard the Gospel of Y’shua’s death and resurrection are  still  aware of the Creator.  The author of Hebrews said that God  rewards those who seek him, without faith it is impossible to please God.  Where do you place your faith?.  That is not saying that people can come to God the creator any way they want (there is no other name under heaven…)  But, it is saying that people who are truly looking for a relationship with the Creator will find what they are looking for.  Next we will look at Romans Chapter 3.  In this Chapter who are the Jewish prophets that he quotes and what did they write?  Clue see 3:10-18

Today we covered Romans 1:1-15 and touched on Romans 1:15&16.

Paul is the Author of the Epistle to the Romans.  Scholars put the date of his writing in the middle part of the first century.  Some said A.D. 55, others A.D. 56 and one said A.D. 57.  It is evident from this passage that he had not been to Rome at the time of this writing (v.13).  We wonderedt about how the people in Rome heard the Gospel as he is writing to those who are “the saints”.  My opinion was that according to Acts, many were in Jerusalem during the feast of Pentecost.  People heard the gospel in their own languages and returned to their homes.  Perhaps these believers told their family and friends what had happened in Jerusalem and the gospel spread.

Paul gives his reason for writing in this passage.  He says that he really wanted to come to Rome.  He prays for the saints there.

Scholars(Criswell,Scofield, Panning, Gould)  wrote that the theme of the letter is in verse 15.  I think the people who wrote that the theme of Romans is “the Saving Grace of God” are playing it safe…..isn’t that the theme on every page of scripture?  BTW if you want the list of the 6 books I am reading for this study just ask and I’ll include it.

The rabbit chase was a discussion about the word Apostle v.s. apostle.  Was Mattthias chosen of God or man?  Acts 1:15-26.  Luke wrote in verse 26 that he was numbered among the 11 apostles.  I said that I thought he was counted in (see verse 17 earlier Judas was counted in, wasn’t he?)

On the way out Debbie asked, “what is the difference between heart, soul and spirit”

What do you think is the difference?  I’ll get back to you about what I think……I want to go study now but I guess I better go make dinner.
